Dr. 大卫 西尔斯 is an infectious disease specialist who cares for patients living with 艾滋病毒 and those with infectious diseases.

One area of 西尔斯' research is evaluating health care quality in outpatient 艾滋病毒 clinics and in the California Correctional Health Care Services system.

西尔斯 earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at New York – Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a fellowship in infectious diseases at UCSF.

西尔斯 is passionate about medical education and has directed a number of educational initiatives at the UCSF 360 Wellness Center, where he instructs trainees in addition to caring for 艾滋病毒-positive patients. He serves as faculty sponsor for the UCSF medical students' 艾滋病毒 interest group and on the committee of the 艾滋病毒 Medicine Association Medical Students Program. In 2019, he received an award for teaching excellence from the UCSF Haile T. 德巴斯医学教育学会.

    There's a lot of emphasis in continuing ed about "working across difference" but in this relationship the challenge appears to be a provider struggling to work with someone who is the same. What happens when the patient is also a highly educated white professional who grew up speaking English and understands science? And who feels empowered to make his own health care decisions based on facts? The consults seem geared towards people who aren't expected to understand what's happening or to think critically. It's unfortunate as this individual is clearly worthy of the many awards already bestowed and it should be a blessing to have such an accomplished practicioner. I never have these problems with my dentist optometrist chiropractor personal trainer etc. 为什么在这里...?

    Dr. 西尔斯 was concerned about a biopsy that was taken almost a month before seeing him and was concerned about the appearance. He took a photograph sent it to my dermatologist and within 24 hours I received a phone call from the dermatologist about how to go forward with the wound prescribed an ointment for it and discussed seeing him in the office in person within two weeks to discuss it further to see if we need to change to an oral medication. He was going to prescribe doxycycline to me based on what he saw but prior to the count phone conversation he already read on my chart that I was allergic to that medication and made the decision to not go ahead and prescribe it for me. That showed a lot of prayer concern and was really appreciated that he knew my health record even before we started having a conversation over the phone.
